Duties and Responsibilities
Development and Peace is the official international development organization of the Catholic Church of Canada and the Canadian member of Caritas Internationalis. Development and Peace is a membership lead organization supported by parish collections, individual donation and government grants, principally from the Canadian International Development Agency. Because Development and Peace volunteers work with fundraising, a police record check is required.
Mission and Vision: For over 40 years Development and Peace has supported 15,200 local initiatives in fields such as agriculture, education, community action as well as the consolidation of peace and advocacy for human right in 70 countries.
Development and Peace at St. Ann’s: With more volunteers, this group could grow into a ‘Social Justice’ committee for the parish by organizing additional education and action campaigns rooted in Catholic Social Teaching. Additional projects could include the promotion of fair trade, anti-poverty forums, hosting speakers and community outreach.
Commitment and Duties: At this point the time commitment for this group is minimal because our main education and fundraising campaign takes place during the 6 weeks of Lent.
